Now it's easier to record the effort associated with RFP assignments and to calculate the overall RFP progress.

In May of 2007 we introduced the RFP Project Tracking module.  This option allows customers to enter current RFP projects and track their progress, associated dates, and assignments to team members.  

Overall project completeness (% Done) is calculated based on the aggregate progress of the assignments.  This calculation considers both the completeness and scope of effort for the assignments.

In the initial release, each assignment was given a "weight" between 0 and 100.  For the project completeness to be calculated correctly, the sum of all assignment weights within a given project needed to total 100.  In all but the most basic projects, adjusting these weights as assignments were added or edited was a chore.  We found that many users began to ignore the weight all together.

"Weight" was changed to "Effort"

Based on this feedback, we've just revised the way project completeness is computed.  Now each assignment has an effort indicator.  You can designate each assignment's effort as None, Minimal, Average, Hard, or Extreme.

The effort indicator can be set without consideration of how many other assignments there are in a project or how much effort they require.  User acceptance testing shows that this new method is easier and quicker and results in more complete usage of the module.  This, in turn, yields a better overall project completeness figure.
